Over the last 20 years the world has witnessed a set of changes responsible for the ever-increasing transformation of society on a global level. The process involves a reconfiguration of power at the national, regional, and transnational levels and includes institutions and other international actors. These events have been generically grouped together under the term globalization. They have been significantly invigorated by developments in the fields of science and technology with consequences for the economic, social, political, and cultural spheres. This article seeks to identify the aspects through which globalization, as a transformative process, has been framed as an innovative movement which allows for more energetic relations between actors. It takes as a point of departure the state, an actor par excellence, as an entity which seeks to optimize its benefits, preserve its sovereignty, and actively participate in the international system. In contrast, the article identifies elements which make up the process of globalization and depict it as a crisis scenario. In this sense, the article develops an analysis of globalization from various perspectives, with the inclusion of globalizing outcomes for members of the state and the spheres of science, technology, and economics.
