Abstract

In recent years, the environmental problems that revolve around synthetic polymers have become evident, especially those that are discarded into the environment after their useful life. For this reason, this research work focuses on the implementation of recycled polymers in emerging technologies such as additive manufacturing. For this, recycled polypropylene, high-density polyethylene and low-density polyethylene were used and a comparison was made with their virgin materials. The selection, grinding, washing and drying of the recovered materials was carried out, for their subsequent transformation by extrusion process, where pellets of said materials were obtained, which were fed to additive manufacturing equipment in which test tubes were obtained for the mechanical and microstructural characterization. Until now, results have been achieved with the recycled and original polypropylene because the research is still ongoing. It was observed that the recycled polyethylene presents greater adhesion to the printing bed and high shrinkage compared to the original. In addition, there are printing difficulties for the original and recycled high-density polyethylene.
