Abstract

Permeable concrete (CoPe) is one of the most important materials in the eld of current research. This material has a high permeability due to its high void rate ranging from 15 to 35%. The distribution of voids and permeability are directly linked to the granulometry of the coarse aggregate used, being that granulometry, uniform, continuous and discontinuous can be used. The choice of each of them will depend on the request hydraulic and mechanical terms that are required in the material. However, there are still major questions related to the influence of aggregates smaller than 4.8 mm on the performance of the material, since these aggregates come from the own aggregate itself. Therefore, this study analyzes the influence of the percentage of one fraction coming from the coarse aggregate on the mechanical and hydraulic properties of the CoPe manufactured with 19 mm (B1), 9.5 mm (B0) and 50/50 (50B0/50B1) mixture of the two British mentioned. The results show that the CoPe 50B0/ 50B1 was the best in terms of resistance reaching 19 MPa and in hydraulic terms the B1 presented the highest coeficient of permeability of 4.27 mm/s in terms of resistance to raise in average a value of 10 MPa and finally the B0 with permeability of approximately 3 mm / when mechanical resistance of 9.5 MPa. The improvement in the arrangement of the grains and the fine fraction of the aggregate itself explains the best mechanical results. It is interesting to note that the low resistance of CoPe’s is usually due to the fragility of the interface between the aggregates.
