Abstract

Finland is one of the five Nordic countries located in the north of the European continent, with a population of 5.4 million; this country has not always been one of the most competitive in the world. Indeed, at the end of the Second World War it could be said that it was rather poor; its primary economy had agriculture and forestry as an axis. However, its inhabitants have been able to overcome and in the last three decades have managed to build a strong economy that allows them to enjoy a level of education, and quality of life that many countries aspire. A key objective of Finnish education policy since the beginning in 1968 has been to provide equal opportunities to all citizens to receive a high quality education. Education in Finland is publicly funded from kindergarten to higher education.
