Can mathematics help to find a missing airplane?

In this article it is briefly described how basic tools of mathematics and physics served to support investigations in the search for missing airplanes. Particularly, the physical principle use by Inmarsat the British company, as a contribution in the search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 disappeared on March 08 of 2014, is identified. Also, Bayes’ Theorem is mentioned as tool used by Metron consulting company, to find the black box of Air France flight 447 crashing on June 1st of 2009, and how these events have led to consider new safety policies.
